Arcan Makina designs and manufactures production lines for the confectionery and chocolate industries. Working closely with OMRON to meet its customers’ expectations for high performance, safety and flexibility, the company optimized the motion performance of a high-speed marshmallow machine using the OMRON Sysmac Machine Control Platform and motion control solutions.

Key Benefits

  • Integrated automation architecture with the OMRON Sysmac Machine Control Platform
  • Reduced software development and machine commissioning time
  • Implementation of machine-specific kinematic calculations within the Sysmac platform
  • Smoother and more controlled linear movements at high speeds
  • Reduced vibrations and sudden transitions
  • More stable and safe machine performance at high speeds
  • Integration of servo and motion control solutions with panel components within the same ecosystem
  • High-performance and flexible control architecture through EtherCAT communication
  • Technical and engineering support from OMRON application engineers throughout the project

Briefly

For approximately 45 years, Arcan Makina has been designing and manufacturing production lines for the confectionery and chocolate industries, exporting its machines to many countries around the world. The company aims to develop flexible solutions that meet different production requirements while delivering high-performance machines designed for safe and reliable operation over many years.

In this project, Arcan Makina worked closely with OMRON to improve the motion performance of a high-speed marshmallow machine.

The project used the OMRON Sysmac Machine Control Platform. Sysmac’s integrated architecture provided significant advantages, particularly during software development and commissioning, contributing to a shorter machine commissioning time.

Due to the machine’s product-specific mechanical design, accurate kinematic calculations were critical to controlling the movements at high speeds. Working together with OMRON application engineers, kinematic calculations were performed based on the machine’s specific mechanical system and implemented within the Sysmac platform using Function Blocks.

As a result of this engineering work, linear movements became more controlled, smooth and vibration-free. The machine was therefore able to achieve more stable and smooth performance even at high speeds.

Another key advantage of the project was OMRON’s role not only as a product supplier, but as a technology partner providing engineering support throughout the project. In addition to servo and motion control solutions, panel components were also used to create an end-to-end integrated automation solution. The EtherCAT communication of the M1 Series inverters contributed to a high-performance and flexible control architecture.

“

“What impressed us most about working with OMRON was that they were not only supplying products, but also actively involved in the project through their engineering support.”

Engineering-focused collaboration with OMRON

For Arcan Makina, OMRON’s application engineering support, alongside its product portfolio, played an important role in the success of the project. OMRON’s Sysmac platform and engineering expertise enabled the motion control to be optimized according to the machine’s specific mechanical requirements.

The close collaboration between Arcan Makina’s technical team and OMRON application engineers contributed to achieving smoother, more stable and safer performance from the high-speed machine.

This project demonstrates the value of a collaborative engineering approach between machine builders and OMRON in developing high-performance automation solutions tailored to customer-specific requirements.
