The single-system point-to-point solution (closed single supplier solution) for serialisation is promoted as ready-to-use systems that fulfill all requirements from printing, inspection, data handling and exchange with the supply chain and government servers.
This solution may solve the initial requirements of serialization as described in the Falsified Medicine Directive (FMD), but the flexible layer solution (open solution) separates the data handling solution from the production line and thereby provides significant advantages.
