Tsunagi is a Japanese term, which cannot be translated by a single word. It can mean glue or filler, i.e. it is something used to join two parts together. The main objective of a Tsunagi lab is to provide means for easily connecting Omron systems to third party products and systems, and sometimes to other OMRON products or systems as well. Although Tsunagi can be applied to any OMRON device, the main focus is to support connectivity and interoperability of the new OMRON Sysmac range of control systems.
OMRON has established seven Tsunagi labs, each in one of its main centres for development and support. In Europe, OMRON's field application engineers have been supporting OEM customers directly on connectivity and interoperability locally and in the customer's local language for many years. The European Tsunagi Lab's first task is to collect this information that can be shared within OMRON after verification and documenting.
The main networks supported by the European Tsunagi lab are EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, IO-Link and OPC-UA as well as other networks like PROFINET, PROFIBUS and DeviceNet.
Working closely with the European R&D center, we can perform in depth analysis of data communication on these networks, troubleshoot and optimise communication performance, and provide recommendations for implementation and solutions.
