Omron extends the life of the industrial solid state relay

04/03/2010

Omron has introduced a range of industrial, compact, solid state relays (SSRs) that offers improved performance, a prolonged life and a greatly reduced risk of failure when compared with other solid state relays.

Outstanding surge endurance

The new G3PE industrial solid state relay and successor to Omron’s popular G3PB series of compact, slim-profile solid state relays, offers greatly improved endurance and reliability characteristics compared with previous solid state relays. Key to the G3PE’s robustness is its increased resistance to surge voltages; using an original surge-pass circuit that gives it outstanding surge endurance and protects it against voltages in excess of 30kV.

Superior all-round performance

The basis for the G3PE’s superior all-round performance is the DBC (Direct Bonded Copper) substrate, which yields a super-thin base, eliminating the thick, heavy copper bases achieved previously. This not only results in fewer layers and excellent electrical insulation, it also achieves lower thermal resistance values and because the expansion coefficient matches silicon, much better power cycling capabilities (up to 50,000 cycles).

Wide range of applications

The G3PE is suitable for a wide range of applications, especially those in the areas of moulding, packaging and food processing, where reliability is essential for process continuity and therefore productivity. The availability of non zero-cross functional types also makes it ideal for applications with a vast inrush current, such as lamp (halogen) heater control, in combination with the EJ1 temperature controller and the G3ZA multi point power controller.

Greater finger protection

Enhanced safety features include a terminal cover design offering greater finger protection.

The G3PE is available in a wide range of ratings with screw or DIN track mounting.
