E2 inductive sensors – when failure is not an option - mechanical robustness

19/04/2010

Small things sometimes have big impact. Inductive proximity sensors may be small and relatively inexpensive, but malfunctions can create big problems for you and your operation. With our premium E2 proximity sensors you receive tested additional protection compared to the market standard. So, you can be sure your machine will work wherever you send it and whatever happens. And for most demanding environments with our application oriented products you will receive highest protection and longest lifetime.

Body – mechanical protection

Issue

The body of a sensor may be damaged if too high torque is applied to mounting nuts or from accidental mechanical damage and can result in water entry (via cracks or microcracks) or complete product breakage.

Solutions

* Market standard: basic protection for IP67 under normal handling conditions

** Tested vibration and mechanical shock resistance and enhanced IP69k protection with our E2A in conditions with occasional higher vibrations, rough handling or cleaning

*** Additional tests with our special E2A under more demanding conditions with frequent vibrations, rough handling and frequent water sprays or cleaning

Cable breakage protection

Issue

Cable damages can be caused by too high pulling force, bending issues (too tight, too frequent, in cold temperatures) or accidental mechanical damage and can result in electrical wire breakage, short circuit or water entry into the main housing.

Solutions

* Market standard: basic protection for minimal bending operations and soft pulling forces

** Cable breakage protection with our E2A for frequent bending operations and stronger pulling forces

*** Robotic cable or thicker cables for very frequent bending operations or strong pulling forces

Connector breakage protection

Issue

Connector damages can result from too high mounting torque when screwing on a cable connector, a too high pulling force on the cable after mounting or from accidental mechanical damage and can result in connector breakage, water entry into the main housing or internal electrical wire breakage.

Solutions

* Market standard: basic protection for normal handling operations

** Tested connector breakage protection with our E2A for occasional too high torque or force application

*** Optional added connector protection with our E2A for frequently applied too high torque or force application

Sensing face – mechanical robustness

Issue

Sensing face damages can be caused by object impacts or frequent brushing. The results can be functional damage, sensing distance change or water entry.

Solutions

* Market standard: basic mechanical protection for normal handling operations

** Tested enhanced robustness for our E2A line for occasional stronger impacts

*** Highest robustness with the E2FM steel sensing face for frequent heavy impacts
