Dyka Plastics NV designs, produces and sells conduit-based plastic piping systems. In addition, the company produces standard or customized attachments made from PVC, PE and PP, plus PVC/PE or PE well constructions etc. Dyka's client base is formed of companies operating in the road building, water system and housing construction industries, as well as waterworks and gas companies. The conduits and attachments are produced at Dyka's large factory in Overpelt ( Belgium). The factory in Overpelt has 20 production lines in total dedicated to conduits. Dyka purchases its machinery and other items from a specialist mechanical engineering company in Italy.

Four of the production lines include machinery that produces the coupling pieces (sleeves) at the end of the conduits. These sleeving machines are controlled via a CPU (Central Processing Unit) featuring a number of input/output cards. In the past, it frequently happened that one of the print relays on the input/output card malfunctioned, which meant that the entire card had to be replaced. The malfunctions resulted in sub-standard goods and the machines were subsequently shut down for hours at a time — in a production environment where not every hour but every minute counts. Dyka identified the solution to this problem in the Omron G2RV PLC Interface Unit: the unit uses a simple method to link eight slim G2RV plug-in relays to a PLC via a cable fitted with a connector.

This solution has provided a much more favorable outcome for Dyka than the previous approach. It is now consistently up to a hundred times quicker than before to replace a part. In addition to the ease of installation, Dyka is also impressed by the mechanical indicator on the relay, as well as the LED indicator on the relay socket. The LED indicator constantly indicates solely whether or not the coil is energized, while the mechanical indicator reflects the current status of the contacts. This saves time when identifying faults.
